December Superintendent's Update

Dear St. Vrain Valley Community,

For many of us, the end of the calendar year provides an opportunity to reflect on the previous year – our successes, challenges and the experiences that will continue to shape our future and the people who have had an impact on our lives. For the students, teachers and staff of St. Vrain Valley Schools, 2016 will be remembered as a critical time in the further advancement of high-quality public education in our community.

St. Vrain’s Senior Volunteer Program Enters Fifth Year

The St. Vrain Valley Schools’ Senior Volunteer Program is once again available for the 2016-2017 school year. The program began in November 2012 to welcome seniors and individuals with disabilities into our schools and provide them financial assistance with their county property taxes. Up to 200 participants will be paid a maximum of 40 hours at $8.50 per hour for a total of $340 between January 2, 2017 and April 30, 2017.

Voters Approve St. Vrain Bond Issue

St. Vrain Valley's $260.3 million bond issue was passing easily, with 59 percent voting yes to 41 percent voting no, based on preliminary results from Boulder, Weld, Larimer and Broomfield counties.

"You've got to give credit to an entire community that came together and once again said education matters," said St. Vrain Valley Superintendent Don Haddad. "The only thing I can say is a big thank you."

Superintendent Update

As the 2016-17 school year rapidly moves forward, I am constantly reminded of the extremely important role education has in our society. Toward this end, we, as St. Vrain educators and public servants, value deeply our responsibility to advance the success of our students and our entire community. The ability to adapt, change and continually elevate our public education system is what will ensure that our students and our community are prepared for the challenges we face in a highly competitive global environment.

I Teach Because...

Think back to when you were a student, back-to-school shopping, finding your classroom, and the exciting lessons that would soon fill your day. The first day of school jitters that were calmed by the friendly, welcoming face, and celebrating the “ah ha” moments when you finally figured out how to solve the problem. Then there was the time in kindergarten, when you went to the restroom but couldn’t remember the way back to your classroom. As panic set in, that friendly face walked around the corner and they knew exactly where your classroom was.

Parent Schoology accounts are coming soon!

We have exciting news to share.  Parent Schoology accounts are on their way. If you haven’t already heard, we adopted Schoology as our new digital learning platform to support the learning in our classrooms. Our teachers will be using Schoology to show upcoming assignments and assessments. Many teachers will also use Schoology to link resources, documents, quizes and more.  A few important things to know about Schoology:
