A special thank you goes out to our NJHS parents and students for keeping our staff nourished during our evening conferences. Your generosity and support are truly appreciated!

Reminders
- Outdoor Recess: We believe in the importance of fresh air and outdoor exercise. We aim to go outside for recess for at least 5 minutes each day. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed appropriately for the weather.
- iPad Preparedness: To help your student succeed, please ensure they come to school each day with a fully charged iPad. This ensures they are ready for their learning activities.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Have a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Natalee Swan, Principal
Parent Corner: Growth Mindset
For the month of February, we will be discussing having a growth mindset in our Advisory classes. When we teach students how to develop a growth mindset, we can help them achieve academic success. A growth mindset, a concept developed by psychologist Carol Dweck, emphasizes the belief that dedication and hard work can develop abilities and intelligence. This perspective encourages children to embrace challenges, learn from criticism, and persist in the face of setbacks. When kids adopt a growth mindset, they start to view challenges as opportunities they can conquer through persistence and hard work instead of giving up or thinking success is unattainable for them.
Encouraging a growth mindset in your child can be achieved by offering specific words of encouragement instead of general praise. Instead of praising your child’s innate talents, focus on providing encouragement that highlights their efforts and strategies. For example, instead of saying, “You’re so smart,” try saying, “I can see how hard you worked on this project, and your effort really paid off.” This type of encouragement reinforces the idea that success comes from hard work and perseverance. When your child faces a difficult task, express confidence in their ability to improve by saying, “I know this is tough, but I believe in your ability to figure it out.” By emphasizing the process and recognizing their determination, you help your child build resilience and a positive attitude towards challenges, essential components of a growth mindset.
Project Launch
Coal Ridge Middle School will host Project Launch Middle School from June 2 to June 26, from 7:45 pm. to 1:45 PM. This free program is designed to support students who need additional help in reading, writing, and math.
EPIC At Home Reading Challenge
We are starting our EPIC At-Home Reading Challenge. Students are encouraged to read at home for at least 20 minutes, five days a week, totaling 100 minutes, to participate in a weekly book drawing. To enter, students must complete their reading log and have a parent sign it. On Fridays, students will exchange their logs with their advisory teacher. Each completed log is entered into a raffle, with one winner per grade announced on Monday. Winners can then choose a free book as their prize.
Yearbook Pictures
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Yearbook Staff 2024-2025 is looking forward to another amazing year! We are hoping that you can help us get some out-of-school sports photos. There are endless opportunities for yearbook photos, and we want to make sure that we can get as many students as possible and their sports represented. If you have photos, please send them to baker_lesha@svvsd.org.
Thank you,
The Yearbook Staff
