Principal Update
Dear Coal Ridge Middle School Families,
I am excited to share some updates and upcoming events at our school. Our Commons area recently received a minor facelift this week with a fresh coat of red paint. It really brightens up the space and makes a huge difference in the atmosphere!
Last Thursday, we hosted our first round of Winter Conferences. It was wonderful to see so many families and students engaging in discussions about their middle school progress with our dedicated teachers. If you missed this event, don’t worry. We have another conference night scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, from 3:10 to 7:00 PM. I encourage everyone who hasn’t had a chance to attend to join us and stay connected with your student’s learning journey.
In sports news, wrestling practice kicked off this week with around 40 students participating. It’s fantastic to see such enthusiasm and participation in our extracurricular activities.
I also want to give a final reminder to everyone that the deadline to nominate one of our outstanding educators is approaching fast. Please see the details below for more information, with the deadline being February 5th.
On a musical note, several of our talented choir students will be representing us at the All-State Choir event on Thursday and Friday. I wish them the best of luck and are incredibly proud of their accomplishments.
Additionally, I am thrilled to announce that registration for our summer extended learning program, Project Launch, is now open. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to engage in enriching activities in the month of June. Please see the QR code below to sign your student up and ensure they don’t miss out on this exciting learning experience.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for sending us your amazing students each day. Your support is invaluable to our school community.
Warm regards,
Natalee Swan, Principal
Parent Corner: Valuable Items
Bringing valuable items and money to school can create some risks for students. Schools are lively places where belongings can sometimes get misplaced or lost. By keeping valuable items at home, parents can help their children feel more relaxed and avoid any worries about losing things. This allows students to focus on learning and their coursework.
Project Launch
Coal Ridge Middle School will host Project Launch Middle School from June 2 to June 26, from 7:45 pm. to 1:45 PM. This free program is designed to support students who need additional help in reading, writing, and math.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, January 30, and Tuesday, February 4, from 3:00 pm. to 7:00 PM. These optional meetings are suggested for parents who have concerns about their child’s academic progress.
Wrestling Sign Up
We are excited to begin Wrestling Season starting on Monday, January 27th! We will have a parent meeting after practice Tuesday, January 28th at 4:15 PM (sorry for the change in dates, I need to have final registration numbers to the district earlier than I thought), where we will go over athlete expectations, how to register, and the schedule. Practice will be Monday-Friday after school 3:00-4:30 PM. Students must have a ride home from practice, there are no buses that can take them home. Please reach out to Coach Ridgway ([email protected]) if you have any questions!
EPIC At Home Reading Challenge
We are starting our EPIC At-Home Reading Challenge. Students are encouraged to read at home for at least 20 minutes, five days a week, totaling 100 minutes, to participate in a weekly book drawing. To enter, students must complete their reading log and have a parent sign it. On Fridays, students will exchange their logs with their advisory teacher. Each completed log is entered into a raffle, with one winner per grade announced on Monday. Winners can then choose a free book as their prize.
Hearing & Vision Screening Day
There will be a vision and hearing team at Coal Ridge Middle School on Thursday, January 30th to screen all 7th graders and students new to the district students. Please encourage your child to wear their glasses/contact lenses to school that day. If the screening indicates your student needs further evaluation, you will be notified by mail. Please consult your school’s health clerk, Debbie Mills, at [email protected] if you have questions or concerns.
Yearbook Pictures
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Yearbook Staff 2024-2025 is looking forward to another amazing year! We are hoping that you can help us get some out-of-school sports photos. There are endless opportunities for yearbook photos, and we want to make sure that we can get as many students as possible and their sports represented. If you have photos, please send them to [email protected].
Thank you,
The Yearbook Staff
