Parent Corner: Preparing for CMAS
Helping your middle schooler understand the importance of state standardized tests can help your child experience success on the test. Take some time to have an open conversation with your child about why these tests matter, explaining that they measure your child’s knowledge and skills in relation to educational standards. This understanding can motivate kids to take the test seriously and perform their best.
Also, work with your child to arrive at school prepared on test day. Emphasize the need for a good night’s sleep to help them stay focused and alert during the test. A nutritious breakfast can provide the energy and concentration they need. Remind your child to charge their iPad fully the night before, ensuring they have all the tools necessary for any digital components of the test. By discussing these practical steps, you can help your child approach standardized testing with confidence and readiness.
CMAS Testing
We will start CMAS testing on Tuesday, April 8. As in previous years, all of our students will take the Math and English Language Arts tests. Our 8th-grade students will also take the CMAS Science test, which is only administered at 8th grade. Additionally, our 7th-grade students will take the CMAS Social Studies test.
The testing window will last for two weeks. Please ensure your child arrives on time every day during this period, as testing will begin promptly at 7:45 a.m. each day.
Students will be taking the CMAS test on their iPads, so we ask that they charge their devices the night before to be ready for the test the following morning. If a student arrives at school with an uncharged iPad, we will need to keep their device at school to charge until the end of the testing period. After the test, students will have the opportunity to read a physical book, so please encourage your child to bring a book to school. Once testing is complete, students will follow a modified class schedule for the remainder of the day.
