Coal Ridge Middle School Weekly Bulletin

Art students enjoying the warm weather before the snow came in

Our art students took advantage of the beautiful spring weather by working outside on their artwork earlier this week, before the snow arrived.

Principal Update

Dear Coal Ridge Middle School Families,

As we move past the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) testing, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your support. Your efforts in ensuring that students arrived with charged iPads and were well-rested and nourished have been invaluable. Our students truly gave their best effort, and we are proud of their hard work!

Finishing the Year Strong

With the end of the school year in sight, we continue to encourage our students to maintain their focus and dedication. This is a crucial time to reinforce the skills and knowledge they have acquired throughout the year. Let’s work together to motivate them to finish strong!

Summer Project Launch

We are excited to announce that there are still spots available in our summer Project Launch for current 6th and 7th graders. This program is an excellent opportunity to extend learning into the month of June. It provides enriching experiences that promote academic growth and prepare students for the upcoming school year. We encourage you to consider this opportunity for your child.

8th Grade Continuation Ceremony

A reminder that our 8th Grade Continuation Ceremony will be held on May 21st, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. This event marks an important milestone for our students as they transition to high school. We look forward to celebrating their middle school years and wish to see all families there to support and cheer them on.

Thank You for Your Support

Thank you once again for your unwavering support throughout the year. The partnership between home and school is vital to student success, and we are grateful for your involvement and commitment. Together, we can ensure a successful conclusion to the school year and a bright future for our students.

Warm regards,

Natalee Swan, Principal

Parent Corner: Reading for 20 Minutes

Encouraging your middle schooler to read for just 20 minutes a day can have a wonderful impact on their learning journey, especially in enhancing their reading comprehension skills. This short daily reading time exposes them to new vocabulary and engaging sentence structures, making it easier for them to understand and analyze texts. Not only will this practice improve their academic performance, but it will also help develop critical thinking skills that are vital across all subjects. Additionally, as they explore various stories or informative texts, they’ll cultivate a deeper appreciation for language and storytelling, fostering a lifelong love for reading. Your support in this daily habit can truly set the stage for their future success.,

Reading before bed not only offers academic benefits but also significantly improves sleep quality. Unlike screen time, which can interfere with sleep patterns due to blue light exposure, curling up with a physical book helps your brain wind down and shift into relaxation mode. This soothing activity can lower stress and anxiety levels, promoting a better night’s sleep.

For middle school students, a good night’s sleep is vital for enhanced cognitive function and emotional well-being. By establishing a bedtime reading routine, students can boost their comprehension skills while also enjoying a more restful night’s sleep. This simple habit can set them up for success in both their studies and daily lives. Happy reading!
