Our seventh-grade students had a great time exploring the Denver Zoo this week. Thank you to our parent volunteers who helped make this trip possible!
Principal Update
Dear Coal Ridge Families,
I hope this message finds you well. We have had a wonderfully busy and eventful week here at Coal Ridge Middle School, filled with achievements and celebrations that truly highlight the talents and dedication of our students.
Highlights from the Week:
- National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony: We proudly inducted over 50 students into the National Junior Honor Society. We recognized another 100 students for their current involvement. Their commitment to scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship is commendable, and we are incredibly proud of their accomplishments.
- Final Band Concert: Our band students delivered a fantastic performance at our final band concert of the year. Their hard work and dedication were evident in the quality of their music.
- 7th Grade Field Trip to the Denver Zoo: Our 7th graders enjoyed a field trip to the Denver Zoo, where they had the opportunity to explore and learn about various animal species and their habitats. It was an enriching experience for all involved.
- 8th Grade Dance: The 8th-grade dance is a memorable event where our students celebrate their middle school journey. We are looking forward to a joyful occasion this evening, filled with laughter and fun, marking a significant milestone in their lives.
Looking Ahead to Next Week:
- iReady Reading and Math Tests: Students will be taking the iReady reading and math assessments for the final time this year next Tuesday and Thursday. These tests are crucial in helping us understand students’ progress and areas for improvement.
- Late Start on Wednesday: Please note that we have a late start scheduled for Wednesday. This provides an opportunity for professional development and planning to ensure we continue delivering high-quality education.
- Final Orchestra Concert: Join us for our final orchestra concert of the year on Monday. The 6th Grade will perform at 6:00 PM, followed by the 7th and 8th Grades at 7:00 PM. We look forward to another brilliant display of our students’ musical talents.
As we approach the end of the school year, we remain committed to maintaining high academic rigor and supporting our students as they finish the year strong. We are extremely proud of all they have achieved and are excited to see them continue to grow and succeed.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Warm regards,
Natalee Swan, Principal
Parent Corner: iReady Testing
As parents, we play a crucial role in supporting our children on their educational journey. One key part of this is helping them get ready for assessments like the iReady test. This test plays a crucial role in monitoring your child’s progress in reading and mathematics. We know that students perform better on these tests when their parents take the time to discuss the importance of the assessment with their children, emphasizing the significance of taking the test seriously and putting forth their best effort. This not only helps in accurately assessing how much they have learned but also provides valuable insights into the areas where they may need additional support.
The scores from the iReady test serve as guidance for teachers and parents alike, indicating the level of support a student may need to be successful in the upcoming school year. By encouraging your child to approach the test with a positive attitude and a willingness to do their best, you are setting the foundation for their academic growth and success. Open communication about the purpose of these tests can also alleviate any anxiety they might feel, turning it into an opportunity for them to demonstrate their hard work and achievements.

Congratulations to our new NJSH inductees! We had over 150 NJHS members present at the induction ceremony on Wednesday night.
8th Grade Dance
The 8th Grade Dance is tonight, Friday, May 2, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This event is exclusively for 8th grade students at Coal Ridge Middle School. Students from other grades or schools will not be permitted to attend. Tickets for the dance cost $5 and can be purchased in advance in Ms. Zaruba’s room from Wednesday to Friday, or at the door on the night of the dance.
Book Fair
May 5-16 from 7:45 am – 3:30 pm
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. A love of independent reading boosts academic success, plus children who read more frequently also report improved mental health.
Using the link below, you can set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
