We know that it is important for kids to get fresh air and move their bodies, so we aim to have them go outside during lunch as much as possible. Please make sure that your kids come to school dressed appropriately for the weather.
Principal Update
Welcome Back!
Dear Coal Ridge Middle School Families,
Welcome back from Winter Break! We hope you had a restful and joyful time with your loved ones. We are excited to have our students back in the building as we kick off Semester 2. Our staff is ready and eager to continue supporting your child’s learning journey.
Winter in Colorado
As we enjoy the beautiful winter season, please remember to dress your students appropriately for the weather. It’s important for them to be prepared for outdoor recess and for the time they spend outside before and after school. Hats, gloves, warm coats, and appropriate footwear are essential!
Important Dates
- No School on January 20, 2025: In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, there will be no school on Monday, January 20. We encourage families to take this time to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy and engage in community service opportunities if possible.
- Parent/Teacher Conferences: Mark your calendars for our upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences on January 30 and February 4. Conferences will take place from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM on both evenings. Stay tuned for information on how to sign up to meet with your child’s teachers. This is a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and address any questions or concerns.
Academics, Athletics and Activities
- November/December Students of the Month: 8th Grader Ayden Cha, 7th Grader Jacob Subbert, and 6th Grader Nolan Brady. Congratulations on consistently demonstrating academic excellence and positive peer leadership!

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.

Parent Corner: Task Initiation
For the next couple of weeks, we will focus on helping students improve their task initiation skills. Supporting your child with task initiation can help their academic success. Task initiation is about beginning tasks promptly and efficiently. To reinforce this skill with your child, you can discuss their school day routines, specifically focusing on how they start their warm-up activities in class. Understanding these routines can help you reinforce similar strategies at home, such as setting a specific time for starting homework.
We will focus on task initiation by helping students enter their classrooms and begin the warm-up immediately without being prompted. Another effective approach is to engage your child in conversations about their classroom experiences. Ask questions like, “How do you feel when you start your warm-ups at school?” or “What helps you get started on tasks?” These discussions encourage self-reflection and help your child identify the best strategies for them. By focusing on task initiation during these conversations, you empower your child to develop effective habits that can enhance their learning experience.
EPIC At Home Reading Challenge
We are starting our EPIC At-Home Reading Challenge. Students are encouraged to read at home for at least 20 minutes, five days a week, totaling 100 minutes, to participate in a weekly book drawing. To enter, students must complete their reading log and have a parent sign it. On Fridays, students will exchange their logs with their advisory teacher. Each completed log is entered into a raffle, with one winner per grade announced on Monday. Winners can then choose a free book as their prize.
Hearing & Vision Screening Day
There will be a vision and hearing team at Coal Ridge Middle School on Thursday, January 30th to screen all 7th graders and students new to the district students. Please encourage your child to wear their glasses/contact lenses to school that day. If the screening indicates your student needs further evaluation, you will be notified by mail. Please consult your school’s health clerk, Debbie Mills, at [email protected] if you have questions or concerns.
