Instrument night

It was so much fun seeing our incoming 6th grade students as they stopped by to determine what instrument they want to play.

I extend my congratulations to our students for their efforts during the first week of CMAS testing. They have been working hard to demonstrate their knowledge, and we are very impressed. Let’s continue to support them as they progress through the testing next week.

Our Parent Advisory Group is collecting donations for Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. This is a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for our amazing teachers and staff. You can contribute through RevTrack, and every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

8th Grade Continuation Ceremony:

To all 8th grade families, please mark your calendars for the 8th Grade Continuation Ceremony on May 21st from 6:00-7:00 pm at Coal Ridge Middle School. This will be a special event, and we are excited to celebrate this milestone with all of you.

I  want to express my sincere gratitude for your incredible support and involvement in our school community. Each one of you plays a vital role in creating a nurturing environment where our students can excel. If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to reach out to us. Your input is always valued.

Parent Corner: Helping Kids Stay Focused at School

As spring arrives, students often find it challenging to stay focused and on task due to the warmer weather and longer daylight hours. This time of year can lead to student distractions and squirrelly behavior. However, maintaining focus during the final months of the school year is important for your child’s academic success. Parents play a vital role in helping their children remain engaged and productive. One effective strategy is to maintain consistent routines. Establishing a regular schedule for homework, chores, and leisure activities can provide the structure children need to stay organized and attentive. Encouraging students to break tasks into manageable chunks and setting specific goals for each study session can also enhance their ability to concentrate.

In addition to routines, good nutrition and sufficient rest are essential for sustaining students’ focus. Providing balanced meals rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins can boost energy levels and cognitive function. Encourage children to snack on healthy options such as nuts, yogurt, or fruit rather than sugary treats that can lead to energy crashes. Equally important is ensuring that students get enough sleep each night. Establishing a consistent bedtime routine, free from screens and distractions, can help children wind down and prepare for restorative sleep. By prioritizing these strategies, parents can support their children in maintaining focus and finishing the school year strong.

CMAS Testing

CMAS will continue next week. As in previous years, all of our students will take the Math and  English Language Arts tests. Our 8th-grade students will also take the CMAS Science test, which is only administered at 8th grade. Additionally, our 7th-grade students will take the CMAS Social Studies test.

The testing window will last for two weeks. Please ensure your child arrives on time every day during this period, as testing will begin promptly at 7:45 a.m. each day.

Students will be taking the CMAS test on their iPads, so we ask that they charge their devices the night before to be ready for the test the following morning. If a student arrives at school with an uncharged iPad, we will need to keep their device at school to charge until the end of the testing period. After the test, students will have the opportunity to read a physical book, so please encourage your child to bring a book to school. Once testing is complete, students will follow a modified class schedule for the remainder of the day.
