Today was the first day our school store was open. The students were able to use their SPARK tickets to purchase fun Coal Ridge Middle School gear.
Principal’s Update
Happy September, Coal Ridge Families!
It’s hard to believe we’re already a week into September, and things are going great! Today we opened our SPARK Store, and the students were absolutely thrilled to spend their SPARK tickets. It was wonderful to see their excitement and reward their positive behavior.
We’re seeing lots of engaging instruction and meaningful learning happening throughout the school. Our staff is working hard to create dynamic lessons, and it’s great to watch the students thrive.
This morning, we kicked off the day with our “High Five Friday” as staff welcomed students with enthusiasm and encouragement. It’s always a great way to set the tone for a positive day.
A special thank you to all of you—our incredible community—for sending us such amazing children each and every day. We truly enjoy laughing, learning, and growing with them.
Please join us for our first PTO meeting of the year on Thursday, September 12, from 5:15-6:15. We’d love to see you there! Also, don’t forget to check out the QR code to visit our Spirit Store and show your school pride!
Wishing you all a wonderful and restful weekend.
Warmly,
Natalee Swan
Principal, Coal Ridge Middle School
Parent Corner: iPad and Device Use
During the middle school years, our children are learning to use iPads and phones responsibly. As parents, we recognize the potential risks of our children being on devices, so it’s crucial that we help them learn to use personal devices. Here are some ways we can support our children as they learn responsible technology management:
- Model Appropriate Technology Use: The best way to teach our children about device use is to set a good example and encourage open communication about their use of devices. We want our children to know that privacy is not guaranteed when using the internet, and children need to regularly share what they do on their devices with their parents.
- Safe Search Filters: St. Vrain understands the importance of learning how to manage technology responsibly. They have placed search filters on the iPad so that students are unable to access inappropriate information for their age.
- Family Rules: Establish family rules and expectations regarding device usage. This includes setting times for device usage, specifying areas where devices are allowed (avoid using them in bedrooms), and designating a single location for charging devices within the household.
For more information about the available parental controls and deciding which ones to use with your child, you can read the article “How do I decide which parental controls to use?” by Common Sense Media. You can also use the link below to learn about the parental controls available on your child’s iPad.
School Pictures
Students will be bringing home the proofs from this year’s picture day today. The proofs include information on how to order pictures. This year, the picture company, VanGogh, will mail the pictures home to you. Picture retakes will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Please reach out to Traci Banker (303-833-4176 or [email protected]) if you have any questions.
