Principal’s Update

Dear Coal Ridge Families,

This week has been full of excitement and growth at Coal Ridge, with many highlights to share!

Sports and After-School Clubs in Full Swing
Our sports teams and various after-school clubs are up and running, and it’s wonderful to see so many students participating with enthusiasm. From Robotics to the Art Club, our students are actively engaging in activities they love.

Debut of Our Student-Produced Video News Show
We are thrilled to announce the debut of our first-ever student-produced video news show! Our talented students have worked hard to create this program, and their creativity and dedication are truly inspiring.

Positive Student Behavior and SPARK Tickets
We are proud of our students for consistently demonstrating expected school behaviors and earning lots of SPARK tickets. These tickets are a testament to their positive attitudes and actions. Please ask your child about the behaviors that have earned them SPARK tickets!

School Store Opening Soon
Excitement is building for the grand opening of our school store, which will take place in just one week! The store will provide a fun opportunity for students to redeem their SPARK tickets for various rewards.

Classroom Learning Highlights
Our classrooms have been buzzing with energy as students work hard to meet their learning targets. This week, I observed rigorous and engaging instruction across all grades. Students were busy making meaning of new ideas, drawing conclusions while reading literary texts, learning how to examine cells under microscopes, and debating over ideas in informational texts. It’s wonderful to see our students so actively engaged in their learning!

High Five Friday
Today, we kicked off the day with High Five Friday, where our staff welcomed students into the building with high fives, setting a positive tone for the day. It was a fantastic way to start the day, and we could feel the positive energy throughout the school!

Upcoming Events and Reminders
Please remember that the long weekend is upon us. Enjoy this time with your families, and we look forward to welcoming our students back next week!  Don’t forget to join us in Longmont on September 7th for the parade on Education.

Thank you for sending us such amazing humans every day. We appreciate your continued support and partnership in your child’s education.

Natalee Swan, Principal

There will be no school on Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.

Wednesday, Sept. 4 will be a late start. School will begin at 10:15 am and buses will run 2.5 hours later than usual.

Parent Corner

Parents, did you know you are in charge of your child’s iPad? Students know that the iPad is not a personal device and should not be treated as such. You should always be able to access your child’s iPad and look it over whenever you want.

We recommend that families work on setting up common expectations and rules regarding iPads at home. Some best practices include setting up a family charging station in a common area so that the iPad is charged and ready to go the next day. Students should not be allowed to keep their iPads in their rooms at night.

We understand that our students are working on learning how to manage their devices. To help them with this process, we have placed all of the students at Coal Ridge on a Level 1 restriction, which means that they will not have access to the App Store. Any apps that students need can be found on the district-managed app store, Self Service.

You, as the parent, also have the ability to restrict your child’s iPad use through screen time parental controls. Use the link below to find more information about what controls are available to you.

CMAS Scores

Intervention Schedule

Every Monday, we will have a longer advisory period in order to have time for students to get caught up on work and get help from their teachers.

  • Students will start every Monday morning in their advisory class. After taking attendance, if a teacher needs to see a student, that student will be sent to the teacher’s classroom.
  • Everyone else will stay in their advisory class and work on goal setting, completing work, or reading a book.

Don’t get caught owing $583 for your child’s iPad

Sign up for iPad insurance today! It is $25 for the whole year, but you can pay any amount of that $25 now to begin the insurance. You can learn more about the St. Vrain Valley iPad Insurance here.

Art Club Wednesdays

Art Club will be on Wednesdays from 3-4:15 pm in the Art Room.  We will meet every Wednesday, and it is important to sign up beforehand for each meeting you would like to attend, as space is limited.  Please contact Mr. Abrahams at [email protected] if you have any questions.
